Global Study Program 2016: Frankfurt Fever

It has been two weeks since my arrival back from Frankurt, but the city flavours and memories are still lingering on my mind. All thanks to IILM for giving me this amazing opportunity to study in International School Management (ISM), Frankfurt through their unique one-month study global program. As soon we arrived in Frankfurt, the beautiful city began to cast its magic on me. Later as we started exploring the city the beautiful green meadow, rivers-cape and pleasant weather commenced a mind-boggling impact on me. Enchanting night walks nearby Main river bank are still solace worthy and breathing inside me.

We received a warm welcome at ISM Business School, and our trip unfolded its wings by fantastic City Tour of Frankfurt. From the very next day our academic journey at ISM began. Modules taken up by the students at ISM consisted of Financial Management, Social-Media Management and Strategic Management.

It would not be wrong in any way, if I say that we got “complete package” of business arena comprising in these three modules. No subject is interesting until and unless it’s in a good hand for deliverance. Professors were very enthusiastic to impart us learning and made us know what the business scenario of Germany is. They kept us actively participated in our four week sessions and made us nimble in case-studies, team work and presentations.

We had a visit to manufacturing plant of OPEL and got aware of how the automobile manufacturing plant works. We made a visit to Frankfurt Stock Exchange and Deutsche Bank and monitored German economy closely.

The portrayal of academic journey at ISM would be incomplete without the name of Prof. Ernest Fahling, HOD of Financial management at ISM. One of the excellent masters/teachers I have ever met taught by. His simple yet significant way of teaching us made the whole difference, and polite sweet gesture makes him different from the crowd. Friendly and highly enthusiastic persona of Mr. Fahling will always be reminiscing evergreen in my mind. The maiden month academic journey at ISM Frankfurt is nonetheless treasure for a lifetime.

As per my observations, Germany is a modern advanced society shaped up by plurality of lifestyles. One thing that must needed to be mention is that German’s values their language at top and prefer to speak and hear German first than English. Nonetheless, language and communication did create a troublesome at some point for all of us, yet we were all too engrossed in the wondrous of the city and people that we chose to ignore tiny bit hurdle aside.

My exploration reveals that Germany is recognized for positive and valuable influence of their own culture, religion and methodology of life spending despite adopting some others.

ISM had arranged our visit to Main Tower- A 56-storey skyscraper located in between Frankfurt city named after the nearby Main River and the viewing observatory from the top was just too mesmerizing and spell-bounding effect on mind.

During the farewell week, we had a tour of an open-air museum Hessen Park (German village set up) and I bet no one have been left untouched with the beauty of German country area view and beauty of museum.

Ending it here I will say that global exposure by far has been my most enthralling experience of life. I got stupendous opportunity to learn German Culture and add up a new vista of world in my diary.

My visit at IILM was very inspiring on both a personal and professional level and the hospitality was extraordinary. The students in my classes were pro- active and took great interest in the topic of Digital Communication. I gave lectures for both UG and PG, and  i was enthralled to encounter the students were very interactive and eager to learn.

I met a lot of inspiring professors at Lodhi Road Campus that all took interest in my visit. This gave me the opportunity to associate myself with interesting people and left me with a clear picture of IILM as the top university, with a magnificent staff of professors.

I commuted to Lodhi Road campus from Gurgaon for daily lectures with ease traveling. Things were quite hopeful in both the campuses.

While at ILLM I had the opportunity to take part in the Global Thinker Award ceremony for Mr. Ashish Nanda. A part from an interesting meeting with Mr. Nanda the ceremony also included a variety of delicious food tastings, as well as the experience of taking part in an event grounded in the very interesting Indian culture.

During my stay in India, we visited the beautiful sight of the Taj Mahal, as well as the city of Jaipur. The days in Jaipur was during ’Holi’, giving us a unique look into the Indian culture. The practicalities of both trips was masterfully taken care of by staff at IILM.

My wife joined me at my first week at IILM and the fantastic hospitality giving to me also included her. We were both invited to join professors and other guests to see a musical at a beautiful nearby location, again a unique experience and look in to Indian culture.

I can only emphasize my stay at IILM as a fantastic and an enriching learning experience.

My IILM experience – Yvonne Küper, ISM Dortmund, Germany (January 2016 to April 2016)

Going abroad is always a great experience and by choosing India and especially IILM for my semester abroad was definitely the best choice for many different reasons.

One thing that I appreciate most about the Indian culture is the hospitality, which I never experienced before in this way in any other country. As long as it is possible for them they help, advise, and guide you through all kinds of situation. This goes in particular to IILM, its faculty, staff and its students.

I was able to stay at the girls hostel here on the campus for the last three month and it was really comfortable and fun, since you get in touch with so many different girls and it was really nice to have some late night girls talks or just watching a movie.

When the semester started I first had to get used to only having two or three classes a day, since in Germany I basically spend most of my day sitting in lectures, but it was really nice as you could totally focus on the classes of the day and therefore put more effort in each of it. During this semester I did not only learned more theories and skills, but what I enjoyed most was the active group discussions and experiencing the different points of view and therefore also more of the Indian culture, as they perceive some things different than us Europeans. Another great thing about the educational part at IILM is the continuous feedback that you give but also receive in terms of the lectures, rough drafts of coursework, and discussions. Also the teachers really care about their students, as you are always welcome to go to their cabin or to e-mail them in order to ask questions.

Besides my studies I was also able to enjoy my free time over here and one of my favorite memories so far was visiting the Taj Mahal, as it is truly majestic and the atmosphere around there, even though it is a very crowded place, is truly breath taking.

I really enjoyed my time here at IILM and in India and therefore I look forward to come back to visit some time, as there are still a lot more things to experience.

IILM invited Prof. Gatien Beaumont from The University of Lorraine, France to Greater Noida campus in the month of February 2016 as a international guest lecturer  to conduct one of the core electives in PG – Entrepreneurship and State & Society, as part of Social Enterprise. We decided to have one on one interaction with him, and ask about his experience in India and the IILM campus in particular. It was indeed a great opportunity for our fellow students and the staff to to know what he had to say about IILM as a B-School in India. We asked him a few questions, and received a quite an insight about his thoughts and teaching experience.

– What is the relevance of the Module taken by you at IILM?
I stayed during 3 weeks in the campus of Greater Noida to conduct a course called Social Entrepreneurship. I had 3 main objectives with this course.

First, the course allowed the students to discover social entrepreneurship. Starting from an analysis of the need of people in India and the development of a social company.

Second, i acknowledged the students how consulting companies use several tips to help the companies develop their business.

Third, the students were taught how to discover the business model canvas. A very innovative and play-full technique that allow to study the business model in the developing of a company, a product or a service.

– What is your say on Faculty and Infrastructure of IILM?
The campus of Greater Noida is quiet, secure and fully equipped place to study. The library contains a large number of different works and the subscription to the business press allow to obtain current information.

– Tell us something about IILM’s Campus Life.IMG_3750

My stay of three weeks allowed me to take some time out to know the teachers and the students of IILM. I discovered a welcoming, passionate and involved educational team and respectful workers, and interesting bunch students.

– What do you think about India, and any experience so far that you would like to share with us.

This trip was my first time in India. India is an incredible country. A huge country made of contrasts. If you ask me what impressed me most in India, I would answer immediately  « The People ! » They are welcoming, generous, and open-minded people. It sometimes amuses me to say that during my stay in the IILM I learned as much as I taught.

Bon Voyage – The IILM Global Study Program in France

In the future, the Global Study Program should undoubtedly become an integral part of IILM as the amount of learning and exposure it has to offer is tremendous. It is an excellent opportunity for every student who aspires to study abroad as well as to become independent for doing things that they have had others do for them till now. It holds great prospects of increasing one’s knowledge by diving into the culture and ways of a foreign country and see the difference in approach towards everything, between them and our nation. Moreover, it offers a lot of unforgettable moments that one would cherish for their lifetime.

As part of four-week student exchange program, 37 students across three Campuses went to Ecole de Management de Normandy Business School, France and Montpellier Business School.

Student’s take on his experience at Montpellier Business School , France, The experience was a very lively one and of great learning and exposure. The pedagogy adopted by the faculty at Montpellier Business School was truly engrossing for each subject being taught. Especially the luxury marketing module which none of us wanted to end! The faculty was really interactive as well and showed great enthusiasm in teaching. They were curious to know from us about India and its culture. The campus facilities were amazing as well and all the students enjoyed their time throughout the day in college, for eg. by playing football downstairs. There was a great deal of learning that took place in this one month study program that told me about the French culture and the rich history this beautiful country has.”

IILM, India & More…

My experience at IILM so far has been incredible. The students are very eager to learn, actively participate in class discussions and want to know how business is done in other countries. The faculty at IILM are very well informed about global issues, they are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The infrastructure here at IILM is very modern and up to date with all the latest technology. I really enjoy all the space and greenery at the Greater Noida campus where I am staying. The students there are very active in campus life as the other night as I was walking to the cafeteria there was a large fire and students dancing and giving out bags of peanuts and popcorn in celebration of the holiday of Lohri.

The module I am teaching is called Doing Business in Diverse Markets and is very relevant to today’s business world. I could teach this course to business students anywhere in the world. It is a case based course that looks at the successes and mistakes companies have made in expanding into various different countries. It looks at all aspects of the companies expansion, how the financial reporting, human resource departments, marketing and IT systems are all different internationally.

I have seen some amazing sights in my stay here in India but the highlight has to be the Taj Mahal, it is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen.

Twelfth week (13th November – 20th November)

This week was a shocking week due to attacks in Paris. I observed that all the people were expressing their condolence  and our teachers were also shocked by this. I was deeply shocked seeing such attacks.

In the school I was selected as a Research assistant by my professor. He asked me to join his team who were writing about Indian culture and luxury market. It was more than delighted to help him.

In this week I was discussing about the luxury cars with my professor and to my surprise he asked me to write an article as he felt that I am good with cars. I took it seriously and wrote an article and he really appreciated me. For me, it was the first article I wrote and I was very inspired.

I learned about “hola” in spain and “Allora” in Italy. All the people are very friendly in these countries and can speak very good English.

Last day ( 21th December)

This was the most difficult part of my journey. I knew this will come but I did not realize that I have made a family there. A family with which I am tied. With a smile on our faces and tears in our eyes we all decided to head towards our real home.
