Working On That Dream Job

Students are always in dilemma of how to manage this phase with ever increasing load of classes and exams. There are certain questions that pop up in every student’s mind.

► When should you start your preparations?
► What all should you prepare?
► How to stay calm and cool at the most crucial times?

As a student, going through the same emotions & anxiety makes me eligible to give answer to these questions and I am pretty sure these tips would definitely help you all.

1. WHEN SHOULD YOU START YOUR PREPARATION?

Most of us entering a B-school have different motives and most of the time first year is more enjoyable than second because we still carry our graduation days to the B-school. Most of us generally start to think about preparations after our SIP when we have freshly completed our internships and are now more aware of what and where do we want to go.

However, starting to prepare just couple of months before the real thing actually breaks most of us rather than giving us that confidence. The main reason for this is ever growing pressure that we have to contain with at this time. Exams, reports, projects, classes and everything takes precedence over what we thought would be a time to invest in preparations for our interviews. So why wait for the last 2 months, and why not start just when you enter the B-school. Yes, my friends starting just when you enter the school is the best time when you can plan your preparations. Just to give you a heads up, your day to chit chats with friends, reading news on your devices, watching videos of you tube can actually help you prepare for the big moment. You would not realize that by doing all this in these two years will eventually lead you to success without tension & stress.

2. WHAT ALL YOU SHOULD PREPARE?

With so many opinions from friends, seniors, faculty, relatives we actually end being confused rather than clear with what all to prepare. So why not you take the charge and extract information on what all should you prepare. With the most powerful tool “internet” in your hands, you can actually change the way you work. There are plenty of blogs, articles which will help you prepare in most accurate way. Amidst everything, you would definitely need advices from people around you, but it’s time to take on responsibility for yourselves. There have been lot of students who prepare according to the organization they have applied for. If you think you are well prepared to crack that, just go ahead. However, if you have any skepticism about this, why not prepare all (Aptitude, GD, Interview, GK, Company Overview etc). Over preparation will not harm you or your mind in any case, it will just give you more knowledge and confidence to perform well.

An organization who has a set pattern for interviews might change this at the last moment due to number of reasons. Why would you give them a chance to eliminate you because you were not prepared? Hence, spend time on preparing for your GD, Interviews, Aptitude etc and just don’t waste any chance to impress the recruiters.

3. HOW TO STAY CALM & COOL

Listed below are some tips which will help you focus and stay more calm and composed during the process:

Start preparing at the right time
Do not get bogged down by others negativity & suggestions
Take responsibility for your actions
Do what you think is the best
Prepare yourself so strong that recruiters have no choice but to select you
Meditate and focus on what you want to achieve rather than going behind what others are trying to do

Guys, these are simple tips that shall really change the way you prepare and perform. It’s the way you think that really paves the way for your success

GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS!

Wish you all the best for your dream jobs.

Get Your Resume Noticed In 6 Seconds

Dear applicants, the recruiters have finally confessed the secret. The time span of a recruiter checking your resume stays between 5-7 seconds, says online job search site The Ladders as per the research done by them. This equals to about 30-40 words on resume in total.

There’s always this anxiety in us to know what happens next when we apply for a job. How long are recruiters reading our resume? What are the major areas of concern on a resume for recruiters?  What interests them to not toss the resume in recycle bin?

Let’s glance through a few facts below unleashing the figures and facts related to recruiters’ activity. (A study was done by Undercover Recruiter on the analytics of CV through a recruiter’s point of view.)

► 200 applications are received when a job is posted
► Average time spent looking at the CV lasts for about 7 seconds
► 15% chance is the attached cover letter will be read too
► 1 spelling or grammar mistake your CV will be thrown out
► 80% of CVs are rejected with photos attached on it
► 60% of recruiters will search for your other social media profiles
► 80% of CVs are rejected if you have unprofessional email address

After the careful analysis of survey done by The Ladders on job recruiters to figure out what matters the most on your resume – firstly, they found out the areas of content that is largely ignored, secondly – the top six aspects on which recruiters pay maximum of their attention, such as –

► Name
► Current Title / Company
► Previous Title / Company
► Current position start end dates
► Previous position start and end dates
► Education

So, what do you do to make your CV gain worth a second glance? We would say, the best solution is to summarize your CV at the earliest.  Try applying following smart tricks to keep your CV visible in that span of 6 seconds precisely –

► Tailor your resume summary as per each job application you apply for – Try to highlight your areas of expertise most relevant to the particular position you are applying for and use them in the summary. This will help a recruiter focus his/her attention on the areas that are expected out of you to perform, hence it improves the interview process.

► Mention the result outcomes you’ve achieved in those areas of expertise – Focus on how you have helped organizations achieve their goals. Simply focus on specific results that have benefited other organizations. And most importantly, how well your accomplishments distinguish you from other candidates.

► Highlight the major industries you’ve been associated along with years of experience – This space gives you an opportunity to explain the industries you’ve been associated with through out your career span. Try to talk about the areas which are most vital in terms of its relevancy and application.

► Make use of important key words that describes you as a best fit Avoid using generic words. Keywords are essential to make your resume strong in terms of right filtration of the most concerned set of words.

► It is equally important to work on LinkedIn profile alongside – Unlike just having about a few lines on your resumes summaries; you have up to 2000 characters in the summary section of your LinkedIn profile to highlight accomplishments and connect them to what you want to do next.

It is true that other parts of resume are also important. But a summary can captivate a recruiter’s mind at the right spot. Try to distinguish yourself from other candidates and create that need of your profile in recruiter’s eyes. In the end, all you can wait for is a call back on your phone.

Global Study Program 2016: Frankfurt Fever

It has been two weeks since my arrival back from Frankurt, but the city flavours and memories are still lingering on my mind. All thanks to IILM for giving me this amazing opportunity to study in International School Management (ISM), Frankfurt through their unique one-month study global program. As soon we arrived in Frankfurt, the beautiful city began to cast its magic on me. Later as we started exploring the city the beautiful green meadow, rivers-cape and pleasant weather commenced a mind-boggling impact on me. Enchanting night walks nearby Main river bank are still solace worthy and breathing inside me.

We received a warm welcome at ISM Business School, and our trip unfolded its wings by fantastic City Tour of Frankfurt. From the very next day our academic journey at ISM began. Modules taken up by the students at ISM consisted of Financial Management, Social-Media Management and Strategic Management.

It would not be wrong in any way, if I say that we got “complete package” of business arena comprising in these three modules. No subject is interesting until and unless it’s in a good hand for deliverance. Professors were very enthusiastic to impart us learning and made us know what the business scenario of Germany is. They kept us actively participated in our four week sessions and made us nimble in case-studies, team work and presentations.

14087177_294145614285004_1524782307_o14114491_294145630951669_168491585_o14114538_294145604285005_295278712_o (1)

We had a visit to manufacturing plant of OPEL and got aware of how the automobile manufacturing plant works. We made a visit to Frankfurt Stock Exchange and Deutsche Bank and monitored German economy closely.

The portrayal of academic journey at ISM would be incomplete without the name of Prof. Ernest Fahling, HOD of Financial management at ISM. One of the excellent masters/teachers I have ever met taught by. His simple yet significant way of teaching us made the whole difference, and polite sweet gesture makes him different from the crowd. Friendly and highly enthusiastic persona of Mr. Fahling will always be reminiscing evergreen in my mind. The maiden month academic journey at ISM Frankfurt is nonetheless treasure for a lifetime.

As per my observations, Germany is a modern advanced society shaped up by plurality of lifestyles. One thing that must needed to be mention is that German’s values their language at top and prefer to speak and hear German first than English. Nonetheless, language and communication did create a troublesome at some point for all of us, yet we were all too engrossed in the wondrous of the city and people that we chose to ignore tiny bit hurdle aside.

My exploration reveals that Germany is recognized for positive and valuable influence of their own culture, religion and methodology of life spending despite adopting some others.

ISM had arranged our visit to Main Tower- A 56-storey skyscraper located in between Frankfurt city named after the nearby Main River and the viewing observatory from the top was just too mesmerizing and spell-bounding effect on mind.

During the farewell week, we had a tour of an open-air museum Hessen Park (German village set up) and I bet no one have been left untouched with the beauty of German country area view and beauty of museum.

Ending it here I will say that global exposure by far has been my most enthralling experience of life. I got stupendous opportunity to learn German Culture and add up a new vista of world in my diary.

Are You Keeping Your Eating Habits Around The Clock ?

“TO EAT IS A NECESSITY BUT TO EAT INTELLIGENTLY IS AN ART.”
– La Rochefoucauld

Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving ourselves of the foods we love. Rather, it’s about feeling great, having more energy, improving our outlook, and stabilizing our mood.

By using these simple tips, we can cut through the confusion and learn how to create a tasty, varied, and healthy diet that is as good for our mind as it is for our body.

We all know that eating right can help us maintain a healthy weight and avoid certain health problems, but our diet can also have a profound effect on our mood and sense of well being.

Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, cooking meals at home, and reducing our intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, may help to improve mood and lower our risk for mental health problems.

We don’t have to be perfect and we don’t have to completely eliminate foods; we enjoy to have a healthy diet.

Healthy Eating Tip 1 : Set yourself up for success

To set yourself up for success, think about planning a healthy diet as a number of small, manageable steps – like adding a salad to your diet once a day – rather than one big drastic change. As your small changes become habit, you can continue to add more healthy choices.

  • Prepare more of your own meals. Cooking more meals at home can help you take charge of what you’re eating and better monitor exactly what goes into your food.
  • Make the right changes. When cutting back on unhealthy foods in your diet, it’s important to replace them with healthy alternatives.
  • Instead of being overly concerned with counting calories, think of your diet in terms of colour, variety, and freshness. Focus on avoiding packaged and processed foods and opting for more fresh ingredients.
  • Focus on how you feel after eating. This will help foster healthy new habits and tastes. The more healthy food you eat, the better you’ll feel after a meal. The more junk food you eat, the more likely you are to feel uncomfortable, nauseous, or drained of energy.
  • Drink plenty of water. It’s common to mistake thirst for hunger, so staying well hydrated will also help you make healthier food choices.

Healthy Eating Tip 2 : Moderation is key

Key to any healthy diet is moderation. But what is moderation? In essence, it means eating only as much food as our body needs. You should feel satisfied at the end of a meal, but not stuffed.

For many of us, moderation also means eating less than we do now. But it doesn’t mean eliminating the foods we love.

  • Think smaller portions. Serving sizes have ballooned recently. When dining out, choose a starter instead of an entree, split a dish with a friend, and don’t order supersized anything.
  • Take your time. Stop eating before you feel full. It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eat slowly.
  • Eat with others whenever possible. Eating in front of the TV or computer often leads to mindless overeating.

Healthy Eating Tip 3 : Reduce sugar

Apart from creating weight problems, too much sugar causes energy spikes and has been linked to diabetes, depression, and even an increase in suicidal behaviours in young people.

Reducing the amount of candy and desserts you eat is only part of the solution as sugar is also hidden in foods such as bread, cereals, canned soups and vegetables, pasta sauce, margarine, instant mashed potatoes, frozen dinners, low-fat meals, fast food, and ketchup. Your body gets all it needs from sugar naturally occurring in food so all this added sugar just means a lot of empty calories.

Tips for cutting down on sugar

  • Slowly reduce the sugar in your diet. A little at a timeto give your taste buds time to adjust and wean yourself off the craving.
  • Avoid sugary drinks. Try drinking sparkling water with a splash of fruit juice instead.
  • Avoid processed or packaged foods.Like canned soups, frozen dinners, or low-fat meals that often contain hidden sugar.
  • Be careful when eating out. Most gravy, dressings and sauces are also packed with salt and sugar, so ask for it to be served on the side.
  • Eat healthier snacks. Cut down on sweet snacks such as candy, chocolate, and cakes. Instead, eat naturally sweet foodsuch as fruit, peppers, or natural peanut butter to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Healthy Eating Tip 4 : Eat plenty of colourful fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and nutrient dense, which means they are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber.

Try to eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables every day as deeply colored fruits and vegetables contain higher concentrations of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Add berries to breakfast cereals, eat fruit for dessert, and snack on vegetables such as carrots, or cherry tomatoes instead of processed snack foods.

Healthy Eating Tip 5 : Bulk up on fiber

Eating foods high in dietary fiber can help you stay regular, lower your risk for heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, and help you lose weight.

  • In general, the more natural and unprocessed the food, the higher it is in fiber.
  • Good sources of fiber include whole grains, wheat cereals, barley, oatmeal, beans, and nuts, vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes, and fruits such as apples, berries, citrus fruits, and pears.
  • An easy way to add more fiber to your diet is to start your day with a whole grain cereal.

Always remembr! It’s not just what you eat, but when you eat

  • Eat breakfast, and eat smaller meals throughout the day. A healthy breakfast can jump start your metabolism, while eating small, healthy meals (rather than the standard three large meals) keeps your energy up.
  • Avoid eating LATE NIGHTHimanshi Grover

It Is Brexit : United Kingdom Votes To Leave EU. How It Impacts India?

Announced and confirmed, it is Brexit. The referendum declares Britain’s exit from the 20 member European Union. It will certainly ripple the global economy and markets, may be in just a blink of an eye. But the question now lingers, will Brexit impact India? If yes, will be on the negative grounds, or positive?

In an article in The Wall Street Journal , Grer IP termed the possible exit of the UK from EU as “the starkest repudiation yet of the postwar consensus favoring ever – deeper global integration”

“A further unraveling would undermine global growth prospects already clouded by aging populations and miserable productivity,” he said in the article.

Indeed, Brexit will have a deep impact on the global economy and in turn on India –

1. The Relationship Of Trade, Export And Import Between India And UK

In the last five years, the trade has been more or less stable. The figures of India – UK Bilateral trade are considerably going on a much settled note.  Since the two-way trade between India and the UK has been fairly stable, the impact is likeyly to be minimal in this area.

In an article, Biswajit Dhar, a professor of economics at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) stated “Britain’s exit from the EU probably won’t have any significant impact on this”

2. India Is One Of The Largest Source Of FDI To The UK

Foreign investment

India invests the maximum in UK than in any other country.  According to Deloitte, as stated in an article, “There are an estimated 800 Indian owned businesses in the UK, including companies like Tata Motors (Jaguar Land Rover – UK Company) with more than 110,000 employees. Further, the UK is also India’s largest G20 investor,” it said.

FDI getting effected by Brexit is an inevitable impact on India.

3. What About The Companies And Profits

UK is the maximum revenue generator source for Indian companies. Maximum of Indian businesses choose to establish their European offices in the UK, to gain the flexible working operations in the UK and to avail the benefits of staying in Europe. Removing this gateway would be problematic for Indian businesses in the UK, who may choose to relocate and direct investment someplace else.

Nasscom recently in an article said a Brexit will have a negative impact on the $108 billion Indian IT sector in the short term. However, it said the exact nature and extent of the impact will emerge over a longer period of two years or more.

4. Status On Currency And Markets

Wait for the snowball effect on India, as UK and the US takes the major hit back with currency downfall. This might be due to  foreign investors winning over their losses by sell-offs in emerging markets, including India. Global market volatility will be certainly expected, the pound will depreciate against major economizes. Hence, India cannot escape from this, Sensex and Nifty will tumble in the short-run.

“For India, it would be more of a reaction to global news, which does not affect it directly to a large extent, except possibly some of the corporates which have large exposure to UK. Post the knee-jerk reaction, we may again get on track due to benign domestic factors,” said Ambareesh Baliga, an independent equity markets analyst.

5. All About The Commonwealth, Travel And Workforce

Britain will always need a continuous inflow of talented workforce, and India has been generating the needs due to its English-speaking population. Migration from European boundaries will be drying up, Britain would will certainly reach out for migration from other countries, which will suit India’s interests.

The UK is one of the most popular destinations for Indian tourists going to Europe. Further, Britain is one of the most important destinations for Indians who want to study abroad. With Brexit, the universities will free up funds and scholarships for students from other countries, just not limited to EU.
