DALAL STREET- MOSAIC ’17

IMG-20170202-WA0018 DSC_0432 DSC_0494 IMG_4471 IMG_4489 IMG_4493

The IILM institute for business and management ,GURUGRAM organised a college fest MOSAIC’17 on 14th and 15th of February 2017 . It is a two day fest with a perfect amalgamation of  sports, business and cultural events where students work  hard to make it a success.

Out of so many events IILM has organised its flagship event ‘DALAL STREET’- it is a share market where buying and selling of shares take place. Earlier there was nothing digital so as a vegetable market there is a share market where in a big hall the transactions between the parties take place. The demand and supply decides the prices of the shares like a vegetable market people are shouting the prices of the companies share and the interested buyer purchases the shares. Sometimes people negotiates with the seller. A similar environment was created in the college event also teams brokers were running for their teams helping or  guiding them in deciding the shares to purchase or sell. The  dalal street atmosphere was similar, everyone was shouting the company’s shares they want to sell or buy. Teams were negotiating on the prices and fighting to earn the maximum profit out of it. There were 3 rounds were teams can buys or sell shares either from exchange or from other teams . In each round the news s flashed and teams have to take decision accordingly on the purchase or sale of the shares. After round 3 teams cannot purchase the shares and the 4th round news is flashed followed by it final price of the shares is also flashed. The team holding maximum net worth wins i.e the one having maximum amount of cash in hand and the maximum value of shares in hand. The event dalal street shows us even after so many technology advancement in the share market the real fun is in the open share market where you can negotiate in person  to purchase or sale of  the shares.

It was a great opportunity for us to be a part of the dalal street team and also learned a lot about how the news effects the share prices of the company, how to minimise your risk with diversification it was like a live project with lot of fun and learning at the same time. Before entering the corporate life getting a chance to work in a practical way which taught us how to work in a team, how to guide the other team members, how to deal with the team mates not working and feeling happy at the end when the team work gives the positive results.

At the end we would like to thank VISHAL GOEL SIR for keeping faith in us and giving us the opportunity to work with him also supporting and helping whenever required  and also the  whole team of dalal street for the hard work.

14th February, Guess what a day it was? ‘Game Day’, a day of igniting innovative ideas.

IILM Institute for Business and Management was all set for game fever. Posters all around and decoration was mind blowing. The décor was elegant and traditional.

Day  started with a basketball match. ‘Basketball is not just a sport it’s a lifestyle’. There were 4 teams in total, out of which 2 were selected for a final match. The match was very interesting and all enjoyed the last quarter of the game. The final game was between GD Goenka and IILM Institute for Business and Management, Gurgaon.  What a game it was, Game completely overturned in the last quarter of the final match & in the end it can be only one, GD Goenka won with a score of 51 and IILM was at 44 Points.

The day continued with Carrom and Table tennis matches. Carrom is a ‘strike and pocket’ table game where it is important to follow rules & regulations of land. 20 Teams from different colleges participated and it was a delight in match.

Then clock strikes 1:00 p.m. time for lunch where delicious food was calling at different food stalls.

Post lunch there was a game of ‘Fun Cricket’, sport met with innovation. It was a game of Cricket with a twist in it, with new rules and regulations. A game without sixes, Fun cricket was a team play where there were 6 members (2 female and 4 male participants). 8 teams in total registered for the game and I must say it was a very tough competition.

Industry Academia conference 2017 by CINQUE

Indian Management Education: Towards Next Horizon

“Collaborating Strategy between Industry and Academia”

CINQUE has conducted one of its kind Industry-Academia conference, “Indian Management Education: Towards Next Horizon (Collaborating Strategy between Industry and Academia)”at The Indian International Centre. With a clear focus on ensuring that Academia and Industry work together like partners rather as than adversaries, the Conference is committed to come up with an implementable agenda and ensure periodic reviews with all stake-holders to ensure the continuity of the exercise.

A closer look at the management schools throws an interesting pattern where B-Schools are more concerned about the number of students graduating rather than their quantity. Corporates also spend significant time, energy and resources to make this talent pool worth contributing. So, the need of the hour is to devise strategies to overcome this shortcoming.

The Key speakers of the conference included:

  • Padmashri Dr Pritam Singh, (CEO-Lead Center and Ex-Director IIM-Lucknow, MDI) who has kindly consented to be the Conference Patron.
  • Mr S. Y. Siddiqui (Chief Mentor – Maruti Suzuki India Limited)
  • Mr Manoj Kohli, Keynote speaker (Executive Chairman SoftBank Energy)
  • Mr Arun Malhotra, Guest of Honour (MD, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd.) and,
  • Dr H. Chaturvedi (Alternate President-EPSI and Director-BIMTECH)

The four broad themes which the Conference endeavours to address in the field of Industry-Academia collaboration are:

  • Architecting and designing relevant and cutting edge curriculum.
  • Honing effective Industry Interface to increase the Employability of Indian B-School students
  • Leveraging technology to encompass larger segment by overcoming demographic and geographic barriers.
  • Adopting Gen-Z relevant cutting edge pedagogical tools

IILM Gurgaon is Proud to be associated with this conference as a co-sponsor and distributed goodies bag to all delegates.IMG_20170119_101942 IMG_20170119_114659 IMG_20170119_115053

Final_Carpe-diem2017- IIM-C event.

Carpe Diem’ 2017 (IIM Calcutta)

IIM Calcutta recently concluded with its annual cultural fest “Carpe Diem”. It was a three day event starting from 27th of January to 29th of January 2017.  4 students from IILM got a chance to participate in the various events of fest.

In February 2016 Makeintern.com organized a two day workshop on ‘Digital Marketing’ on 18th and 19th in our college in Gurgaon. Around 30 students participated in this workshop mentored by “Mr. Ujjawal Chugh”. At the end of the workshop there was quiz conducted out of which 4 students were selected to participate in B-Plan competition to be held in the fest.

The team was-

  1. Surabhi Bhatia
  2. Mahipal Jain
  3. Riya Garg
  4. Vijyadeep Dhasmana

We 4 prepared a B-Plan on bespoke tailoring solution named as “Dressoup”. This was to be presented in the competition.

Day 1

We landed in the noon in Kolkata and reached college wherein they gave us accomodations. Carpe Diem 2017 was inaugurated by famous children author Ruskin Bond. He addressed the audience and narrated about his various life experiences. We had a chance to interact with him and asked questions related to his books and stories. His speech was followed by a band performance ‘Laghori-Coke Studio’.

Day 2

Our day started with breakfast in the student mess, eating which we missed our IILM breakfast very much. Then was the first round of B-Plan Competition in which a team quiz was conducted. It was written quiz which consisted of questions 125 on Rio Olympics, Constitution of India and general marketing concepts. Around 40 teams from various colleges in India participated in that quiz. After that we moved out and looked for other events. We were also given lunch coupons and again during lunch we realized IILM still stands far ahead in terms of food and hospitality. In the gaming corner a block game known as ‘Zenga’ was being played. Then there was picture puzzle, face painting doodle art etc. we participated in a few of them. The day ended with a performance by “Nucleya” a renowned DJ.

Day 3

Results were announced for the quiz and much to our delight we qualified for the second round. Now came the time for presenting our business idea. Each team was given 10 min to put forward their presentation and after that there was a small round of Q&A from the judges. We presented our B-plan but exceeded the time limit by 2 minutes. However, judges were still convinced in the Q&A session. After that we saw many events like fashion show, dance competition etc. at 4 o clock results were announced and unfortunately we could not make it to top 3. Still, we would say it was an amazing experience for all 4 of us as we got a chance to be here in such a premier B-School and talk to people out there.

In the evening we left the campus and decided to take a small city tour. We visited Howrah Bridge, Birla Mandir and then Park Street, which is famous for its night life. Street food in Kolkata is very delicious and a must try.

Next morning we went to New Market and spent whole day wandering around as our flight was delayed by 3 hours. To sum it up, it was a very hands-on experience for those who always wondered what life in the most sought after B-School would be.

Yuva Goonj session on Women Empowerment

A woman is a being with senses, imagination and thoughts; she should be able to express them freely. Individual empowerment means to have the self-confidence to articulate and assert the power to negotiate and decide.

The quotation has been rightly said by Swami Vivekananda Ji -“There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved, It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing. ”- which means that until and unless our society improves the surviving conditions of women in our society, the world cannot progress further.

Yuva Goonj, the NGO club of IILM Gurgaon  is progressing towards their mission  of  Women development and Women empowerment. Keeping to this,  the members of the club organized a session on “Women Empowerment” along with Navjyoti India Foundation, Gurugram in the rural areas of Haryana. During the session, Dr. Pinky Goswami threw some light on the importance of women empowerment in the society.

The session was followed up by one-to-one meeting where each women discussed their various issues and challenges with Dr. P.Goswami and found ways to overcome them and increase their self esteem and thereby raise  their level of confidence. The beneficiaries left with good satisfaction and renewed confidence to live an empowered life.

Girl Up Club session on Demonetization

It was a shocking moment for whole world when our Prime Minister Mr. Narender Modi Ji  declared demonetization of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes. The decision was taken to curb the black money from the Indian market and control the terrorist activities taking place on a large scale.
Girl Up Club Session on Demonetization Blog

Girl Up Club, that aims to uplift the women and provide them an environment to live with dignity in the society, has recently conducted a session on demonetization and cashless transaction of money in the premises of Navjyoti India Foundation, Gurgaon. The session was conducted with a motive of educating the women and making them realize how easy  it is to move to the cashless mode of transactions. It is very important to educate them because they are the first member of a family and if they are convinced, it is considered the whole family is convinced and thereby uplifting the society.

They were also told about the use of debit and credit cards which will simplify their lives to a great extent. They were made to install the app of paytm and a demo was provided to them about its use. Some of them were already using the app. Dr.  Kiran Bedi-  Lieutenant Governor of  Pondicherry and social activist of our country and founder of Nav Jyoti  appreciated the efforts put in by the club members towards up-liftmen of women and society at large.
