Bon Voyage – The IILM Global Study Program in France

In the future, the Global Study Program should undoubtedly become an integral part of IILM as the amount of learning and exposure it has to offer is tremendous. It is an excellent opportunity for every student who aspires to study abroad as well as to become independent for doing things that they have had others do for them till now. It holds great prospects of increasing one’s knowledge by diving into the culture and ways of a foreign country and see the difference in approach towards everything, between them and our nation. Moreover, it offers a lot of unforgettable moments that one would cherish for their lifetime.

As part of four-week student exchange program, 37 students across three Campuses went to Ecole de Management de Normandy Business School, France and Montpellier Business School.

– The hotel has fully furnished and equipped apartments
– The visit to the Shipping Port
– Visits to historical WWII sites, where students gained insight into the politico-economic history of the Europe
– Ability to experience living in the integrated bloc of EU
– Ability to experience different cultures by visiting other European Nation
– Many Indian Restaurants nearby

Demerits :
– The entertainment centers are open from Thursday-Saturday

Program at Montpellier Business School took place from 1st November -28th November 2015, where all the students completed four modules 1) Luxury Marketing  2) Entrepreneurship 3) Cross Cultural Negotiation 4) Doing Business in France.  The students also visited a vineyard, where the process of making wine was explained and an overview of the Wine industry in France was given.

It was a great platform for students to understand French culture and the business environment. The assessments involved creating business plans, analyzing business models, developing new product ideas and of presenting them to a group of investors. Some key skills that were enhanced through the program were brain storming and work in groups, presentation skills and business acumen.

Student’s take on his experience at Montpellier Business School , France, The experience was a very lively one and of great learning and exposure. The pedagogy adopted by the faculty at Montpellier Business School was truly engrossing for each subject being taught. Especially the luxury marketing module which none of us wanted to end! The faculty was really interactive as well and showed great enthusiasm in teaching. They were curious to know from us about India and its culture. The campus facilities were amazing as well and all the students enjoyed their time throughout the day in college, for eg. by playing football downstairs. There was a great deal of learning that took place in this one month study program that told me about the French culture and the rich history this beautiful country has.”

IILM, India & More…

My experience at IILM so far has been incredible. The students are very eager to learn, actively participate in class discussions and want to know how business is done in other countries. The faculty at IILM are very well informed about global issues, they are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The infrastructure here at IILM is very modern and up to date with all the latest technology. I really enjoy all the space and greenery at the Greater Noida campus where I am staying. The students there are very active in campus life as the other night as I was walking to the cafeteria there was a large fire and students dancing and giving out bags of peanuts and popcorn in celebration of the holiday of Lohri.

The module I am teaching is called Doing Business in Diverse Markets and is very relevant to today’s business world. I could teach this course to business students anywhere in the world. It is a case based course that looks at the successes and mistakes companies have made in expanding into various different countries. It looks at all aspects of the companies expansion, how the financial reporting, human resource departments, marketing and IT systems are all different internationally.

I have seen some amazing sights in my stay here in India but the highlight has to be the Taj Mahal, it is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen.

How to stay Motivated & Creative

Life is an evolving journey through different phenomena present around us all. In order to keep up through the peaks of stagnancy, it is important to keep motivated and creative. Motivation and Creativity works hand in hand. There could be endless things around us that could keep us thrilled up in life, for instance – from just reading another chapter of your favorite book to meeting another friend for a supper. Let’s look at four ways to keep you motivated and creative.

Challenge Against The Odds –
One of the best ways to motivate is to challenge against the anything odd. So, the question arises, ‘HOW DO YOU CHALLENGE YOURSELF?’Remember the last time you got a good grade in your examination, you tried to give your best for your college team in any sports? Now, let me tell you how you can do it. Push yourself to achieve an even higher target , if you have got a good grade try getting an even better grade, if you gave your best in the college sport, trying giving even more, get yours team in the winning position, win it for your team, not individually but as a team. The satisfaction that you’ll get at that moment, believe me, is one of the best moments in your life.

Think Deep – No matter what situation you have been thrown into, don’t exaggerate and get nervous. Just calm yourself down and try to think deep into the situation, try analyzing all the little things that come into your mind related to the problem. A way will always come out.

Read More – They say, “book is said to be a man’s best friend”, and I totally second it. Once you start reading, either it’s a book or even an article; it opens up your view to different scenarios. I myself have always tried reading auto-biographies and biographies of influential person. Their experiences will tell you, how they have struggled in different situation, and have come out being a better man. Am not telling you to only read biographies, read anything you like. Reading books take you to a different world. You try to live that world for that moment and it refreshes your mind.

Set Higher Goals – This is the biggest motivating factor in one’s life. What do you want to be? Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years? Go, set yourself some goals and work on them and try to achieve it. A person gets one single life, and if you aren’t able to live it to the fullest, you haven’t lived it at all. Even if you aren’t able to achieve it, at least you gave it a try. AND if you can ‘TRY’, you can do anything, my friend.

So, tell us what keeps you all motivated and creative. Share your stories with us.

Study Abroad Semester at Burgundy School of Business, France

We learn every single day, every single second

Everybody says that there will be a turning point in life when the way your thought works, the way you perceive this world will change. IILM exchange program was that turning point in my life. I was among those students who got this lucky opportunity to stay in Dijon which changed my Life.

First week ( 23th   Agust – 1st  September)

With mixed feeling I arrived in Dijon. It is completely different from New Delhi. A calm, peaceful city with old historic mountains. Later, I came to know that it is called as a city of students.

Next day I was welcomed by the friendly teachers and staff in the induction week were we were made aware about the city. I got an international exposure as there were students from Germany, Spain, Poland,Russia, Italy,China,Korea,Africa  and many more. There were trips which were organized by school which helped us to know each other better.

Second week : (1st September – 8th September)

In this week we were given an introduction about our specialization and how we will be graded on our performImagen2ance. I was surprised to see the student-teacher relationship in France.

It was informal yet formal. Also, a new thing I experienced was that university itself was organizing parties for us.This was something new for me unlike Indian universities. In this week I also got a chance to visit thefamous Dijon Music Festival which happens only once in a year.

Third week (9th September -16th September)

In this week our courses began and we were introduced to our teachers. Most of the teachers were globally renowned teachers and have taught in different countries. So, it was easy to get along with them. Teachers were very friendly and it was very comfortable to adjust with us. I also got a chance to visit Paris on the weekend.

Fourth week ( 17th September-24th September )

In this week, due to light schedule of our lectures. We decided to explore Dijon. We visited many churches, temples. World famous wine of france was of course great. Dijon has numerous churches and museums each having its own significant value.Imagen4

Fifth week (24th September-1st October)

A month passed away but I was still feeling that I Imagen5arrived just few days back. In this week we learnt about different marketing tools and how international marketing works. I also learnt some basic French and points about French culture. I realized that many of things are similar and basic just like our Indian culture. In this week I got a chance to visit “Alsace” a city in france famous for hills. We went in bus and got to know many new friends. Later we need to represent our countries and I was proud to represent mine.

Sixth week (1st -7th October)

This week we studied about global marketing strategy. How different luxury brands develop there strategy. This week was really great as we were involved in many group discussions and I learnt many new things.  On the weekend I also got a chance to visit Switzerland alps with a friend from Belgium. It was a great exposure as we learned about each other culture. Also, this was first time I experienced snowfall in my life.

Seventh week (7th -14th October)

This week was an amazing one as we studied about international marketing management and got exposed to new market conditions prevailing around the world. We learned about the emerging market sector. In this week I also get to know about the French wine and cheese. Unlike india, drinking wine is really common in France at public places.

Eighth week  (14th -21st October )

This week we were told about our examination days and we need to start preparing for it. We were also told the pattern of the exam and what are we expected to write. We were also told about the forthcoming vacations. All the students studied hard in this exam to copee up with classes and score good marks in exams.

Ninth week (21st -28th October) : First exam

We had our first French exam this week. Exam pattern is similar as that of India in France also. I came to know about a new culture of drinking wine with teachers if the exam is easy. This was something new for me as in india I always had that formal relationship with teachers.

Tenth week (28th-4th November):  Crazy Halloween night

Imagen8

This was a relaxing week as we had no classes. This was also the Halloween week. This was first time in my life I celebrated Halloween and I enjoyed every moment of it. I learned what happened on Halloween and why it is celebrated.

Eleventh week ( 5th– 12th November): Celebrating Diwali the french way

In this week along with the classes. I celebrated diwali with my global friends. India is really famous for its culture all over the world. Everybody was keen to know how diwali is celebrated and why it was celebrated. Also, this was the first time I tried my hands on cooking some complicated Indian food for them.

Twelfth week (13th November – 20th November)

This week was a shocking week due to attacks in Paris. I observed that all the people were expressing their condolence  and our teachers were also shocked by this. I was deeply shocked seeing such attacks.

In the school I was selected as a Research assistant by my professor. He asked me to join his team who were writing about Indian culture and luxury market. It was more than delighted to help him.

Thirteen week  ( 21st – 28th  November) : My first article

In this week I was discussing about the luxury cars with my professor and to my surprise he asked me to write an article as he felt that I am good with cars. I took it seriously and wrote an article and he really appreciated me. For me, it was the first article I wrote and I was very inspired.

Week 14 ( 29th -5th  December) : Final exams

These were the exam days. All the students were inside their rooms studying and school was silent as there were less classes because of exams.

Fifteenth week ( 6th  -13th December)Imagen10

This was a relaxing week as we were done with our exams . I decided to travel in the rest of days. I got a chance to visit lyon this week with the Erasmus group of students. It was a great experience. I experienced the churches and monuments there. The significance of Merci marie etc.

Sixteenth week ( 13th – 20th December)

This was the travelling week. I visited Spain and Italy in this week. I experienced a varied culture. I tried to learn a little Spanish but I realized that’s not my cup of tea. I learned about “hola” in spain and “Allora” in Italy. All the people are very friendly in these countries and can speak very good English.

Last day ( 21th December)

This was the most difficult part of my journey. I knew this will come but I did not realize that I have made a family there. A family with which I am tied. With a smile on our faces and tears in our eyes we all decided to head towards our real home.

6 Habits To Get Rid Of In 2016

We have all made that ‘Break the Habit’ or ‘Resolutions’ list every year. Trial after trial we try our best to hit them all, well, almost. Let’s be honest to each other, the list is not getting any shorter. Think of 6 nerve wreck habits that you have planted in you for years, and trying to give up, but they cling back with every effort you make.

6 Habits that a person should get rid off:

  1. Late Riser: A person, who arrives late starts late, and finishes all the tasks on the edge of deadlines. Late risers always make a bad impression no matter what powerful position he/she is holding in an organization. Being late doesn’t make you an important person If you are late it completely means that you’re disrespecting the other person.
  2. Burn that Ego: Person’s ego could be destructive, especially when used with a bad intention. A person’s ego can interpret how he perceives a particular situation. Size of an ego could take you down or leave you empty. Say goodbye to that big ego in you, and let things shape the way it is supposed to.
  3. Pitch of Discourtesy: Courtesy is a part and parcel of a person’s behavior. How a person makes an impression depends on a number of factors and being courteous in one of them. Discourteous behavior can lead fellow colleague, friends and family’s ability to think erode.
  4. The Old Blame Game: Excuses are easy, so as blaming others. Putting things down on others can bring you down in minutes. Having a charge of your actions and results is what makes your stand stronger in any win-win situation.
  5. Don’t Run Away from Situations: If you fall into a situation where people are blaming you for your lack of proper working, don’t distance yourself and try to face the situation. The moment you face the situation and not don’t back out, you become a matured person and hence can try to improve yourself by giving in a bit more effort.
  6. Break the Miscommunication: People can often misinterpret what you say, even though you are trying to say something which is fruitful but you aren’t able to articulate it. But do remember; never shy away from a conversation. The more you converse, the more confident you become.
So, we ask you to share with us some of your habits that you want to break away in 2016!

Start Up India : Entrepreneurship Conference @ IILM

IILM hosted its second Entrepreneurship Conference on December 4, 2015. The main focus of the conference was on the theme “Start Up India.” It’s a known fact that India, today, is an emerging economy that is destined to achieve milestones, on various fronts, in the near future. However, for India, to acquire the status of a “developed” nation, it needs to create 100 million jobs, statistics point out! Experts confirm, in an Endeavour to achieve this mark, tapping the potential of the unemployed and exploring opportunities in the employment market, so that each and every person plays a crucial role in contributing towards the development. The education system in the country should highlight the importance of entrepreneurship and also prepare students to start their own enterprises to generate wealth,.

The session started with the talk of the first speaker Dr. Ritesh Malik, Founder – Innov8 Creatives, Alive App and Mr. Sandeep Oberoi, General Manager, Philips Healthcare. Dr. Ritesh Malik highlighted that Entrepreneurship is about passion and perseverance and encouraged them never to give up even if the start up fails in the few initial attempts. Mr. Sandeep Oberoi stressed that it’s not just innovative ideas that bring success to an entrepreneur but also the commercial packaging of the ideas. He mentioned that entrepreneurial skills are inbuilt in a person and with proper support and initiative, one can become a successful entrepreneur.

The second session was about Innovation and Creation. Innovation and Creation are keys to successful organization. Creativity is the capability or act of conceiving something original or unusual. Innovation is the implementation of something new. Invention is the creation of something that has never been made before and is recognized as the product of some unique insight. This session  also focused on Disruptive Innovation as a key to create new markets and stressed the point that Internet is assisting the culture of entrepreneurship as it reduces the entry barriers to the process.  Ms. Sukhmani Bedi expressed that it’s more recycling of thoughts and ideas in India.

The third Session on “The Investor’s perspective to a startup, The speakers highlighted India at present being on the forefront on entrepreneurial roadmap. The panel members discussed the factors that are most important before making a decision to invest in a startup. They also shared their own experiences in starting their own enterprises. what problem they faced and also encourage the budding entrepreneur to take advantage of the various investment opportunities.

The last session was “The Startup’s Failure – A Roadmap to Success!”. This was the most interesting session it focused on the reasons responsible for startups failure and how devising a good strategy can be helpful in sustaining and scaling growth. Deliberations among the panelists focused on the reasons of failure and the resilience needed from entrepreneurs to sustain. Analyzing and implementing the correct strategy is the important  task.

At last my learning from this conference was that the talks gave me clear insight about what entrepreneurship is and how can one go with it,what strategy should one .It is not at all a rocket science it just about being INNOVATIVE & CREATIVE, In Today’s era every organization need to be innovative and creative otherwise its survival in the market is very difficult. Our PM Mr. Narender Modi has also focused upon the startups in India. In his Independence Day speech, Modi had announced a new campaign ‘Startup India; Stand up India’ to promote bank financing for startups and offer incentives to boost entrepreneurship and job creation in the country.
