IILM Graduate School of Management, Greater Noida is in continuous pursuit of all-round excellence in Management Education by narrowing the gap between academia and industry. To that end, IGSM, Greater Noida organized a day-long HR Conference on the theme “HR & Fourth Industrial Revolution: Dealing with people in the age of Artificial Intelligence” on Saturday, 28th October, 2017 at its Greater Noida Campus. A dynamic era of change in the world of work has introduced Fourth Industrial Revolution, which will be shaped by a range of new technologies and innovations like virtual reality, the internet of things, smart robots and artificial intelligence. Advent of machines powered by artificial intelligence has already strongly influenced the work. There are three possibilities in future – machines will replace humans; or it can make people better in what they are doing; or it can invent entirely new jobs. The conference covered a wide range of different horizons related to AI.

Inaugural Session:

The Conference began with a Welcome Address by Dr. Taruna Gautam, Director, IGSM, followed by an introduction to the Conference theme by Dr. Shyamali Satpathy, Conference Chair. Our chief guest Dr. Kamal Singh addressed the students about the dramatically changing business environment where team members have to overcome space, time and cultural barriers to deliver and sustain in the competition. He also highlighted on new information age, internet of things and artificial intelligence are disrupting existing business models and affecting their long term feasibility.

Dr. Singh during his Inaugural session discussed about the challenges that India is facing such as, Firstly, Challenge of leadership – India faces a problem of leadership and we need to work hard to fill the deficit that we are facing today. Secondly, Challenge of Technology Innovation – Technology is changing every second, e.g.; earlier libraries were the only source of information but today google has taken over all sources of information. Thirdly, Challenge of Uncertainty – Uncertainty makes us think differently. We should be prepared for before for the uncertainty strikes us causing more adverse situations to deal. Fourthly, New Changes – Today countries like China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea are among the countries which are advancing in the technologies especially in the area of Artificial intelligence. He also mentioned that the current technological revolution need not become a race between humans and machines but rather an opportunity for work where people recognize their full potential.

The Keynote Speaker of the Conference Mr. Satyakki Bhattacharjee, Executive Council and CPO, ABP News,

Mr. Satyakki Bhattacharjee elaborated on the broad idea about Artificial Intelligence with its definition and examples. He shares the session of John McCarthy, he said that anything which is not human intelligence is Artificial Intelligence. There is a fear that things like more machines, automation and AI could lead to layoffs, and companies will restructure. These new technologies will impact all disciplines and industries, and even challenge us about what it means to be human. He threw a light on the increase in machines, or human output will decrease in the upcoming era. With growing use of use of machines and more of Artificial Intelligence coming into our lives the criteria required for jobs are changing along with a change in job roles. He also mentioned that automation and digitalization will continue to develop in developing countries like India. What is relevant for each country in this respect is the degree of its technological development and the technological skills of young people who will shape the future of the labour market. Young people in developing countries are optimistic with regard to their professional future.

Both the speakers concluded that in order to get adapted with the change of new technologies we need to explore the impact of technology and advent of machines powered by Artificial Intelligence on work. The session was very interactive and students took deep interest in exchanging ideas with the speakers.

Session 1: Digital Culture Shock: HR’s new role in the age of automation.

After the inaugural session, the conference preceded to its first technical session our 2nd year student Ms Priyanshu Baranwal, moderator of the session, introduced the panel members and gave a brief idea about the objectives of the session.

The first panel member of this session was Dr. Maninder Singh Khalsa. He started the discussion by sharing his own experience in working in different environment. He said that the digital age in context of India has started in 90’s. Then he expressed his views on changes in organization with respect to HR, liquid workforce, and various business models for example: -Uber, changes in employee and employer relationship, shifting of world with our own area of specialization.

Our Second panelist was Mr. P.K. Shrivastava, Head HR, Continental device India Pvt. Ltd. He discussed in the session about the dependence on electronics that has made our lives easier. In today’s scenario people have to learn about technology or else they will be out of touch with the fact moving pace of the world. He also shared his experience, in late 70’s there were no computers when he started working. He faced difficulties at his workplace as he was recruited in a company where computers were produced. He was coming from an Arts student background with little or no knowledge of computers. Post his selection his company guided which help get adaptive to the new technology and was able to work in the company without any difficulty.

Ms. Runa Maitra, Founder & Director, People Talent International was the last panel member of the first session. She continued the session mentioning us to be a change maker rather than a change taker and Indians have more adaptability than any other country. She talked about social entrepreneurship and technology transformations. She also added that artificial Intelligence will impact the world in a positive way more than a culture shock and AI will keep evolving and makes us be ahead of time. The new age managers would be digitally adaptive, connected with the others, will be willing to learn.

Session 2: Employment trends in the context of people and robotics

 

The second session moderated by Mr. Prakhar Rajoria, 2nd year student, introducing the panel members to the audience.

The first speaker of the second session was Mr. Harsh Raj Jain, Manager Recruitment Ebix Software India Private Ltd. He spoke about the fear about Artificial Intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution. According to him we should welcome the change with the open arms. He mentions that rise of machines has the power to break down traditional barriers in organizations by enhancing their human capital. Manpower needs to be empowered by enhancing their creativity and Emotional Intelligence rather than simply able to follow instructions.

Dr. V.P Singh, Former Advisor (Organizational Development) Patanjali was the second speaker of the session. He continued the session by sharing his own experiences. While some jobs are threatened by redundancy and others grow rapidly, existing jobs are also going through a change in the skill sets required to do them. There is a fear that things like more machines, automation and AI could lead to layoffs, and companies will restructure. He also shared that empowerment will offer all business leaders a more meaningful career and will challenge their traditional vision of leadership.

 

Ms. Shobha Krishnan, Head HR Sukam Power Systems Limited was the last speaker on this panel. She spoke about her personal experience with company Blue Chip and how she faced the shift from a not digital India to a digital India. She shared how amazed she was with the Internet getting faster or how teller clerks were replaced by ATMs. She explained that one thing that will not change in humans is undesirability and adaptability for a long time. She informed us that now people come with HR skills but will soon be emerged with Artificial Intelligence in HR’s new role.

Session 3: Empowering people with the rise of machines

The third session was moderated by Ms. Jessica Arora, 2nd year student, introducing the panel members to the audience.

The first speaker for the third session was Ms. Geetanjali Saxena, HR Consultant, Sage Global HR. She said that today’s technology is empowering us. She informed that nowadays technology shifts in every 18 months on an average. People who refuse to adopt the new technology often are the ones who loses job. Organizations in future will be very different from today. People are going to be differently managed and that everyone has to adopt the changes and use it for the required purpose. She also shared that the future of automation in the workplace will provide a scope in implementing technology platforms and processes that give employees a great experience and also empower managers to maximize employee satisfaction and performance.

The Second speaker was Ms. Anjalie Chaudhary, GM HR, Organizational effectiveness & Leadership Development, Tech Mahindra. She shared her experience in working with her first job. She mentioned that workforce is 10 lakhs spread over countries and technology plays a crucial part and it makes life easier and automatic in simpler terms. She also talked about sentimental analysis which understands the sentiments as accurately as 70 % through a software. Empowerment will also offer all business leaders a more meaningful career and will challenge their traditional vision of leadership.

Mr. Murlidhar Shyam, Sector head HR Airport, GMR Airports Ltd. was our speaker for the third session. He spoke about the age of artificially stimulated proximity and how we are going to engage our team in AS Proximity. He helped realize the question that how we are ready for the cyber-attacks. He also shared the knowledge on highest level of uncertainty and ambiguity. He mentioned that we need to prepare for ourselves for the dynamics of environment, where technology is changing so quickly.

At the end he concluded by sharing with us the take-away that we should make ourselves capable enough to deal with the changes.

Valedictory Address & Vote of Thanks

Dr. V. P. Singh gave the Valedictory Address focusing on urge to be wiser, thoughtful, and doing a lot more research, to have clear vision. Dr. Singh showed two videos on artificial intelligence and helped us realize that we should not be scared of artificial intelligence and that we should rule over the new technology rather than the technology ruling over us.

Students showed interest and responded with great enthusiasm while putting up questions to the panelists and guests’ speakers. The conference concluded with Vote of Thanks. All those who had contributed in making the conference a success have been acknowledged.

The competitive environment of the 21 century where most competition is global and innovation is the need of the hour, change becomes the core competency of any organization Human Capital can play an important role in helping organizations achieve change. Human Resource has always been central to organization. Today, it has taken on an even more central role in building a firm’s competitive advantage. The dynamics of change becomes one of the central facets of any business where the role, function and process of Human Resource must be redefined in the context of change. Human Resource Strategies and practices explain how to manage the transition smoothly, rapidly and successfully and make the organisation competitive and reach excellence. For every organization, human resources (HR) are like their treasured assets. In order to faster the employee performances, efforts should be directed to treat them carefully and effectively. Every entity wants to attract and retain talented employees to work for them at top levels. Hence, it is very difficult to achieve organizational objectives without managing human resources effectively.

The International Conference oriented to highlight the importance of human resource management for every organization be it government or private. There is no doubt that the conference has brought out the essence of the theme “Organizational Excellence through the power of human capital” in all its aspects and that too in a brilliant manner. The theme is so relevant in today’s context especially when HR as a function is facing lot of challenges and transition.

There was a time when employee management was once referred as workforce management, and then transformed to Personnel Management. Later the same transformed into human resource management and then Human Capital. And now it is Talent Management. In some organization HR is referred as Business partner and that is more strategic in nature. No doubt, HR has now become more dynamic and crucial to the success of the organization in creating excellence. And increasingly the organizations have started realizing that any mistake on this could be a costly one.
We had many leaders from different industry giving their views and perspective on the dynamics of HR. It is very interesting to note that these views came from multiple industry right from an Aircraft manufacturing company, Consulting, Insurance, Consumer durables and to Software

Conference started with the welcome speech given by Dr.P. Mala Rvizhi, Director Academics, IILM. She extended her warm welcome towards all the respected speakers of the conference with all fervour of gratitude and gaiety.
Starting with the conference topic “Organizational Excellence through the Power of Human Capital”, Dr. Pinky Goswami briefed the objective of the conference and gave a brief recapitulation of the HR Conference of 2016. In her speech, she stressed on giving importance to the concept of collective intelligence in order to bring about organizational excellence. She also remarked the need to cultivate a strong sense of team spirit, wherein each member will complement each other for organizational success.

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Aquil Busrai, our esteemed Key note speaker – A man with exceptional knowledge about Human Resource and having an array of experience serving in the field of HR for more than 4 decades.Today, Mr Busrai owns his own consulting firm named “Aquil Busrai Consulting”. Mr. Busrai keeping his view point stated “Improvise-Adapt-Adopt” and deal with status quo of technology advancement, keeping hands on now HR people recharge the human capital for organisation.

Plenary session: Leading the conference ahead plenary session begins.

Mr. Paramjit Singh Lamba, AVP HR, Orient Craft Pvt. Ltd. addressed the audience in the Plenary Session about the skill sets required for the future. He discussed about work life in future in which he told about the attributes which a company would be looking in a candidate in the future including social intelligence, new media literacy, etc. He also told how the export sector is the most affected sector by recent government reforms.

Mr. Dhananjay Singh, Director General NHRDN putting his view point said that focussing on Investing in good habits and ability to work in a team is all about organizational excellence through human capital.

Mr. V.P.Singh, Advisor OD Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd , Human capital leader with proven credentials for building process driven, people centric & customer focused organisations continued the session and said that “Fanatic discipline; Monomaniacal Creativity that is empirical and Productive Paranoia are required to be great”.

Mr. Ashutosh Anshu, General Manager, Head HR, Hitachi India addressed the session and enlightened the young PGDM students with his viewpoint. He said, “You can’t do today with yesterday’s methods and be in business tomorrow”. He also spoke about how to adopt today’s changes into our everyday lives. He stressed on the point of “ASK”, Attitude, Knowledge and Skill.

Session 1: Raising the Bar of Human Resources Management

Dr. Saima Rizvi, session moderator for the session welcomed the entire respected HR professional and talked about how Humana Resources Management is raising its bar from traditional shift to Strategic shift in the modern age.

Speakers of the Session were:

Ms. Ruma Batheja: Head Human Resource Knowledgetics and she talked about “Raising the bar through Inno-Create People Management Skills; Collaborating Humanity and Technology; Emotional and Organizational wellbeing.”

Mr. Gautam Rao: AVP Max Life stated”Four pillars required to raise the HR bar

2. Enhance Business Performance
3. Innovate HR Excellence
4. Inspire Engagement”.

Corporate Paper presenter: Ms Shefali Bahi shah, Head HR Exicom presented a paper on “Impact of Organizational competencies on organizational performances in manufacturing industry”

Student Speakers: Sefali Mittal (PG 2017-2019, IILM Gurgaon) spoke on the changes in HR from the traditional world to the world of the Millennial. Ms. Ruchi Singh (PG 2016-2018, IILM Gurgaon) spoke on how technology becomes a boon to the world of HR.

Session two: Redesigning workforce for 21st Century Manager

Dr Vidhisa Vyas, session moderator for the session briefed the session explaining the need and redesigning demand for the workforce and work culture in 21st century

The session picked up steam with the topic 21st century manager Ms. Divya Jain, Director Grant Thornton talked about the Workplace for the Human Age. She said today’s workforce is even more powerful than their company itself. They decide the fate of the company and are very keen on learning. Hence, the most required thing in today’s era is an open and honest feedback which can lead to the betterment of the workforce which in turn can increase the output.

Ms. Anju Sabhrawal, Founder and CEO, People Bridges talked about Well-developed and embedded cultures that are the key to redesigning the workforce.

Mr. Ajay Mehra, Managing Director in South Asia of Airbus. He expressed how we first need to identify ourselves and then other employees as an HR manager. First we need to follow and then only implement the rules. He also talked about the sustained expansion of the service industry in today’s era.

Paper Presenter: Ms.Monika, Junior Research fellow from Jamia Millia Islamia presented a research paper on workplace spirituality and its impact on workforce. She emphasized how employee satisfaction is more important than consumer satisfaction.

Student Speaker: Charu Goswami (PG 2016-2018, IILM Gurgaon) talked about how vision leads the company. Whatever is the employees’ vision about his life is sufficient to judge his role in the company.
International student Paper Presentation: Neil from Sweden said, “Human Resources is the most important in India as here there are too many people involved as opposed to developed lands where more machines are involved”.

Organising Team

This session focused on people performance through analytics that is so critical in today’s competitive job market with Dr. Sona moderating the session.

Mr. Deepak explained how we are between a cusp of technology and globalization and in the middle is HR. He also said whatever was difficult for the computer to understand has been made easy by humans through emotions. Hence, it is important to understand the needs and sentiments of the employees for better performances.
Mr. Gaurav Bakshi, Co-Founder and Managing Partner explained how predictive analytics in HR is the need of the hour today. He said future skills, future needs are to be anticipated by the HR keeping in mind both inside and outside factors.

Similar views were expressed by Ms. Malabika Bose, HR Head, Blackberry. She shared a quote relating to whatever gets measured gets managed and whatever gets managed gets executed. She also gave insight about the three stages of HR analytics namely predicting, analysis and reporting.
Ms. Prerna spoke about the transparency needed in the culture of the company which can only be brought by the HR.Towards the end, Mr. Siddharth Dutta a first year PGDM student presented a paper in which he focused on the Maslow’s theory in the Indian Context.

We, at IILM consciously make an effort to bring the industry and academia together, through such conferences and we will continue to strive for the same in future. 22nd Convocation of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Program

IILM celebrated 22nd Convocation of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Program at its Lodhi Road Campus on 25th August 2017. 296 students from IILM Graduate School of Management, Greater Noida, IILM Institute for Business and Management, Gurgaon and IILM Institute for Higher Education, New Delhi were conferred their PG Diplomas in Management.

Mr. Bharat Kaushal,Managing Director, Hitachi India Private Limited was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Kaushal has the unique distinction of being the first Indian Managing Director of Hitachi. A distinguished business professional, Mr Kaushal has over 25 years of industry experience specializing in macroeconomic policy, government advisory, project finance, debt restructuring as well as in mergers and acquisitions. He is an alumnus of Columbia University where he pursued Masters in International Affairs and Northeastern University where he secured his Masters in Business Administration. He graduated from St Stephen’s College, Delhi.

Message from the Chief Guest, Mr. Bharat Kaushal, Managing Director, Hitachi India Private Limited

In his address, Mr. Kaushal congratulated the young graduates and said that, “We could not have asked for a bigger blessing for the day than Ganesh Chaturthi. This is may be the most auspicious signal for you all. It is a privilege for me to be here on the day of Convocation of an academic institution. I think an academic institution is one of the highest points of recognition that one receives personally as a part of their own growth. My association with IILM was born in 1993. I have known it reaching many several pedestals and I think it is also important to thank for the important roles played by the younger generation of the Rai family. Anand and Aarti, thank you very much for your contribution.
I was in a flight about one and a half hours ago before I came here and I was thinking what to say to this smart lot of graduating people who are already very intelligent. And I said to myself that maybe I should not leave them with theory, but share something about what I have learnt in my own life’s journey. Some of the observations I have may be relevant for today and some of those may be used as you get on in life.

The first thing that I want to share with you today is that you must always set a goalpost for yourself. This is a water ship moment. You have culminated whole lot of learning that has gone on until today and you embark on upon a sort of really big opportunity from your own businesses to envisioning new ideas, starting up your own ventures, to companies and institutions where you will find jobs and work and learn in every sphere. But leadership is an important goalpost and the only way to set that goalpost is to start taking ownership from the first day. You have to put your heart in where your mind is. Not every job is going to be intellectually fertile or stimulating. But it is important to take ownership of what you believe in. You will learn that not every position is about CEO’s job. Leadership is the most important aspect of every job and so you have to pay attention to your work as though it is your own company. And finally, somewhere recognition for your sincerity will fall in place. The other thing that I want to say is about learning continuously. You must build on yourself constantly. I am standing in front of you. I am going through a reinvention myself. Even at 49 years of age, I put efforts to constantly learn and reinvent myself more and more. In the end, I will talk about social evolution. If we look at this whole evolution that we have been undergoing, it has always been a balance of continuity and change. But just this time, the word progressive disruption has made the whole thing change so much that we have altogether different perspectives about this is how education, skilling, work and everything else around us should be. You should always be ready to deal with the rapidly evolving environment.

And like I have said, some of the things I have shared with you may be relevant today and some of them are those on which you can reflect upon and use them later in life. But the most important thing to remember in life is that things have their own way of finding a course to reach you. And everything doesn’t have to be planned. Of course, you have to be diligent and keep organising yourself for tomorrow. The opportunities are opening and it is nothing like before. I come from a humble background and I went to St. Stephen’s College thinking that I will join the Civil Services. But then things changed entirely and this is where I have landed up today. But definitely about my interest in India, and this is also what I say to my Japanese colleagues all the time, is that I am good person to be your team is because I am a very proud Indian.

I have come here to be a part of your celebration and to share with you that you need to believe in yourself and go ahead in life. God bless you!

Awards and Recognition

The Chief Guest, Mr. Bharat Kaushal and Mrs. Malvika Rai presented Gold and Silver Medals to the toppers from three Campuses. The winners of the Gold and Silver Medals respectively were Navneet Kaur and Lochan Surana from New Delhi Campus, Shubham Agarwal and Sagnik Das from Gurgaon Campus and Joseph Davis and Sajib Dhar from Greater Noida Campus.

Summer Internship (SIP) has always been an integral part of the Curriculum at IILM. It has proved to be instrumental in enhancing the credentials of the students and also in fetching them a fulltime job. Mr. Bharat Kaushal extended the award to Pooja Falwariya from IILM Institute for Higher Education, New Delhi. She did Internship on Human Resources Practices (Talent Acquisition) at Marks & Spencer. Best SIP award from IILM Institute for Business and Management, Gurgaon was extended to Sagnik Das for Internship on Marketing Assessment of Bakery Fats Cargill India Private Limited. Best SIP award from IILM Graduate School of Management, Greater Noida went to Mansi Singh for Internship on Big Data Analysis at Benzara.

IILM honoured six faculty members with the Excellence in Teaching Award. The faculty who won the award for teaching core modules are Prof. Rajkishan Nair (Greater Noida Campus), Prof. Ruchi Shah (Gurgaon Campus) and Prof. Rahul Mishra (Lodhi Road Campus). The faculty who won the award for teaching elective modules are Prof. Raju Majumdar (Greater Noida Campus), Prof. Pinky Goswami (Gurgaon Campus) and Prof. Devika Sharma (Lodhi Road Campus). The Award winners expressed their joy and gratitude to students as they mentioned that this day would not have been possible without a successful partnership with them. They also thanked the Management for providing them with a platform to exhibit their knowledge and skills and recognising their efforts.

IILM also nurtures the tradition of recognising its senior alumni every year. This year, Dr. Smitha Girija welcomed Mr. Anil V Vallecha, Senior Service Delivery – Financial Operations, American Express. Mr. Vallecha is IILM alumnus from the Class of 1998. Mrs. Malvika Rai, Chairperson, IILM, presented an award to him. Dr. Smitha Girija, Director PGDM took the opportunity to highlight some of the major achievements of the Institute with the audience.

She mentioned that the Association of Management Development Institutes of South Asia (AMDISA) has awarded the prestigious SAQS Re-accreditation to IILM for a period of 5 years and IILM’s Greater Noida Campus has been re-accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). IILM is also a member of the United Nations Global Compact Initiative – “PRME”, and has earned the coveted ‘Champion business school’ status. This year in July during the Global Forum in New York, PRME launched the India Chapter.

IILM has set up a Centre for Excellence in Family Business which is an institutional member of Family Firm Institute, Chicago. The Centre aims at research and training, discussions through conferences and seminars which will help its family-business students, alumni and parents.IILM has also constituted an Entrepreneurship Development Centre with the primary aim of encouraging entrepreneurial mind-set among students.

Another integral part of the PGDM curriculum is the Global Study Program. The students get the opportunityto learn at IILM’s partner schools in Germany, France, Spain and Canada for four weeks and acquire global exposure, which has proved to be of great value to the students.

Prof. Joyeeta Chatterjee, Dean of IILM Institute for Higher Education in her congratulatory address to the graduates said, “A new chapter is about to begin. A myriad of new challenges and options are on your horizons. There are two different paths you can take now after graduation – either you can aspire to build big things and move ahead in life very fast or decide to ride a very comfortable journey, bearing no risk. Most of you are taught to think big! Build rocket ships by being patient and persistent. And most importantly be around people who want to build rocket ships. That is how you will succeed. I urge you to be focused and serious while trying to achieve your goal. However, in this process don’t make your life too serious. A Move for a Democratic Nation

Democracy has never been the word of today’s politics indeed a word that has made history where Shri Bal Gangadhar Tilak quoted “Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it”. The constitution of India enhanced and proved the democratic environment of the country. The seven fundamental rights were given to the people to practice democracy in the right direction. But unfortunately people in the country have not understood the meaning of them with the application. Right to do whatever you want is democracy for most of the people in India. The right to criticize, right to divide, right to destroy, right to justify and the list is endless with all the rights.

Now the time is here to understand the implications of these rights that have been set by us which should make us realize that there is nothing that we are going to leave for the coming generations. The facts about the increase in pollution are evident in the report of WHO which reveals that 13 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in India.

Another man made pollution addition is depicted by soaring figures of smokers in India with 110 million, compared to just 74.5 million smokers over three decades back, despite all the anti-tobacco and smoke-free laws made in the country. Another freedom has been seen with natural disaster by earthquakes, flooding, volcanic eruption, landslide, hurricanes etc. where the onus lies on us for all the creative disasters by playing with nature.

It is not just playing with the environment but playing with each other as well. The question is who would take the responsibility of all these things you, me, government, system. Ideally if we look at it no one would. So the prime responsibility lies on each one of us to make sure that we contribute constructively rather than destructively toward it. If we look at the corporates they have started doing their work with Corporate Social Responsibility being put into action. Now the turn is ours where each one of us will have to focus on Individual Social Responsibility or Consumer Social Responsibility to mark our contribution in right direction the ways it’s implemented in the west. The Americans boycotted the world famous brands like Nike, Adidas, by exercising their right in the correction direction whereas the story is different in our country.

Let us get together and refine the statement of Democracy for all of us so that the right becomes right and not wrong for a better future, nation, world, universe and earth.

On the Occasion of WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY, 8TH September, 2016 a blood donation camp was organized by YUVA GOONJ – NGO Club of IILM INSTITUTE FOR BUSSINESS AND MANAGEMENT, GURGAON in collaboration with Rotary club gurgaon, unit of rotary blood bank and social services.

Rotary Blood Bank established in 2002 with the mission of “no one shall suffer from in and around Delhi for want of Blood” collaborated with YUVA GOONJ spreading the objective of Yuva wings to bring smile and colours to life. EXPERIENCE OF GLOBAL STUDY PROGRAM

The study abroad program is designed to further develop and expand our intercultural and language competencies, and enhance and deepen our professional knowledge in an international context.

Being a student of BBA program at IILM comes with the advantage of the Global Study Program. This Program spread over three weeks gives the students an opportunity to travel to Germany and complete a module at International School of Management, Germany (ISM), IILM’s partner business school. The students go abroad at the end of the first year of their SBS Swiss Business School Degree course at IILM Campus. In fact, we had the choice to go to Stuttgart or Dortmund Germany or Seneca in Canada, and we had opted for Stuttgart.

Stuttgart and its surrounding area form one of the largest commercial capitals in Europe. The campus is just a few minutes on foot from south of the city centre and is easy to reach using public transport. The ISM Stuttgart Campus easily accommodated our batch and we had all the resources required for presentations and project work on request. We also had options available for lunch right next to our Campus.Ms. Vanessa,coordinator of the Global Study Program representing ISM, was also our mentor in Germany. She answered all the queries about the city, cuisine and travel plans. Ms. Vanessa also organized a city tour for all the students. The tour was conducted in a bus and we were shown the most popular landmarks and historical sites of the city with a narrative.

Talking about classes, our sessions were conducted by Professor Björn Röeber who taught us Strategic Management and Professor Qeis Kamran who taught us Entrepreneurial Innovation.The teaching methodology included lecture practices which is an effective way to present new information orally. Both our professors were highly interactive and made us participate in group discussions. We found that they used to actively engage the group for discussion on a particular subject and they also shared case studies which were designed to evaluate how we processed information, solved problems and reacted to new and surprising situations, as well as how we worked within a team.

We also had the opportunity of three Company Visits. The industrial visits were organised for the Porsche Museum, Bosch and Daimler. It is noteworthy to mention that the automobile industry is one of the leading industries at the global level and we got the chance to visit these Companies.

Talking about our experience during the visits, at Bosch, we got to know the technical side of how their business operates and at Daimler, we got to understand the production side of the business as well. In Porsche Museum, we were shown the evolution of the cars too. We liked the fact that we were introduced to their methods of acquiring customers.

We want to mention that it’s important that we have a realistic approach when we go for the study abroad program as it involves doing things that we do not normally do while at home. For example, laundry, groceries, making our beds. And so, here were times when we also felt a little homesick because this was our first college trip too. But at the same time, we also got to learn a lot from our experiences. Our teachers, peers and the ISM mentor were helpful in making things easy for us.

Lastly, we thoroughly enjoyed attending our classes, company visits and most specially one another’s company. It was great to know that we all had the ability to independently handle various situations and to figure out things on our own instead of having them done for us by someone else.

Book Review- “The Anatomy of Success” by Dr Rakesh Sinha

The world record winning, Dr. Rakesh Sinha is a gynecological endoscopic surgeon based in Mumbai. He has written his first book entitled; “The Anatomy of success – Management lessons from a surgeon”. Drawing two Guinness World Record from his surgical experiences, Doctor motivates people to achieve excellence in their own professional goals by deconstructing success into easy components. He has focused on higher potential of human being and further suggested that irrespective of the biological components, the success is something which we all are deserving.

His first book is based on management lessons from his own surgical experiences. This book is divided into fifteen chapters and all were sub-divided on the basis of three components; i.e. Biological component; Learning Component and cognitive component. Dr. Rakesh has utilized his education of neurophysiological and neurolinguistics programming for elaborating his experiences of real life. The visualization of dreams can be easily seen through GPS (i.e. Goal, process and success) and further expounded that heredity has to do nothing with the success. The more redefined signature skill will allow us to get the job done in the lesser time and efficiently. Will power is generally based on the thoughts, emotions, performance and impulse. The author has put forward the concept of how to unlearn the things and pursuit the mastery in our fields.

The reading is first of its kind which recommend a person about what to do or what not to do in order to attain the success. As the examples cited in the book is linked with human neurological system, medical terms and surgery. Hence, it become very stimulating for any reader to learn, to become very optimistic.

Self-control, decision making biases and learning through observation or deliberate practice are the most interesting aspects which are covered in the book. Its human nature that if any endorsements or recommendations are given by any layman then we may not accept or acknowledge it but if the lessons or suggestions are given by doctor or professional then we usually not only accept it but also foreword it to others.

This manuscript will enlighten you with the tips of attaining the success in very short span of time and the most beautiful thing proposed in the book is that to err is human and to learn is divine.

The book highlights the few commonalities between management and medicine. Betting the odds and being better than what we could be are the best learning we can gain from this book. Dr. Rakesh has elaborated each inspiring point through the medicinal and motivational theories. His lessons would be meaningful for the patients, doctors, mangers and trainers. He has segregated the entire learning lessons of the book into three sub-parts :

Suggestions for Doctors : The anatomy of success is an entire treatise on the essential path towards success, the anatomy of the mind, the psyche, the carving and passion for success. The book teaches that how success is generated, nurtured and reaches fruition.

Suggestions for Patients : Stress is the worst thing for any patient and it will find a way to infiltrate our immunity. Dr. Rakesh has suggested that Success at just any cost will leave you poorer in end. The art of maintaining a fine balance in work and world is also the hardest lesson that even the author have ever had to learn and it is one that he keep learning every day of his life.

Suggestions for Mangers & Trainers : Dr. Rakesh has asked a question from the mangers and professional that can work alone provide the satisfaction? The response is negative. The success evolve only with the perfect balance of Personal, professional, spiritual and family life.
